PROF YING TAN is a full professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne, where she has been since 2004. Prof Tan received her PhD from the National University of Singapore in 2002 and joined McMaster University (Canada) in 2002 as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Chemical Engineering. Her areas of research include control engineering, signal and systems, iterative learning control and on-line optimization techniques. Prof Tan’s projects vary from advanced theories, applied engineering projects such as rehabilitation robotic systems for stroke patients, to prototype development with both hardware and software.
Prof Tan has received more than A $6 million research funding. She received the Australian Postdoctoral Fellowship (2006-2008) and the prestigious Future Fellowship (2009-2013), awarded by the ARC. Prof Tan has led several major domestic and international research projects including in China and Malaysia, and has authored and co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed papers.
She maintains collaborations with several academic and research institutions including National University of Singapore (Singapore), Imperial College London (United Kingdom), Peking University (China); University of California (United States of America)
