KUSAL GOONEWARDENA has more than 20 years experience as a leading physiotherapy practitioner for high performing athletes and teams, travelling around the world, and providing his athletes the most up-to-date techniques to prevent injury, provide rapid recovery (if injured), enhance performance and win!
With a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (University of Melbourne) and Masters of Physiotherapy (LaTrobe University) Mr Goonewardena founded Elite Akademy Sports Medicine in 2012. He is an APA Accredited Sports Physiotherapist, and is the Head of Sports Medicine and the official provider for the Melbourne University Sport Elite Athlete Program & Representative Teams – totalling about 400 athletes (including Olympians). Since working with the University of Melbourne in 2002 it has finished in the top 3 for the Australian University Games in all year’s bar one.
He founded the Vigor Sports Medicine Clinics which were the only orthopaedic teaching schools for overseas trained physiotherapists in Australia. A keen lecturer and mentor he has personally helped over 1000 physiotherapists to shape their careers in sports physiotherapy. He has released three books, ‘3 Minute Workouts’, ‘Back Pain – Rebuild, Recover, Revitalise’ and ‘Natural Healing – Quiet and Calm’. He is a guest expert for ABC National Radio, and is a renowned speaker and guest lecturer in Australia, Singapore, China, Japan and Sri Lanka on physiotherapy. His passion is to lead practitioners so they live a life of service that is judged by expertise, results, service and education.
