PROFESSOR FRANZ KONSTANTIN FUSS is a recognised world-leading expert in the area of Sports Engineering with more than 30 years of academic and industrial research experience. His areas of expertise include sensors, sensor systems, smart equipment and advanced data analytics of sensor data.
As the Director of the ‘Smart Products’ Program at Swinburne University, he leads research into smart equipment, wearable technology, IoT and applications thereof – specifically in the area of smart sports products, smart composite materials, and smart medical sensor applications.
Prof. Fuss pioneered smart and intelligent equipment in the sports sector and developed the world’s first sensor applications. His sensor applications were used by several sports teams, such as the smart cricket ball by the England Cricket Board, smart wheelchairs by the Australian Wheelchair Rugby Team, and the smart wind tunnel by the Australian ski-cross and border-cross team. Several of these athletes and teams won gold medals or World Cups.
His research collaboration with industry has resulted in 40 patents and his research has attracted A $14 million of industry funding. Prof. Fuss has authored and edited 8 books, published 90 book chapters, 94 journal papers, and 112 conference papers.
